My Second Home: Germany

Germany_Castle.jpeg

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to Germany twice; once with my high school exchange group, and the other by myself.  Now, a third time!

I’m also very fortunate to have kept in touch with my host family since first visiting them in 2005.  It is also fortunate that my Brother is currently stationed in Stuttgart, our main purpose for this trip, visiting them!  This is a series of fortunate events!

We arrived in a very foggy Munich, still dark out.  From there we set out on the autobahn with my Brother at the helm to get back to Stuttgart to see some soccer from my nephews!

We went to a beautiful castle just outside of Stuttgart and a charming little town called Tübigen, and it has some history as well.  A part of this trip I was very excited for was going to visit my host family for two days in Leipzig!  I haven’t seen them since 2007 so it was a very long overdue trip.  We had a fantastic time, got to go around the city and see the sights, plus a delicious dinner at a very hip restaurant, then a really neat art installation at an old gas storage facility from WWII.  The art installation was a huge 360 exhibit of the Titanic - it was incredible!  Overall it was just great to see my host family and enjoy my “home city” of Germany:  Leipzig.

It’s not a bad day when you get to go on a factory tour at Porsche and then take in all the beautiful Porsche Museum has to offer (see post here) then hit the golf course for nine holes with your Brother!  :)

To wrap up our whirlwind trip we all got into the van and headed to Salzburg, Austria!  Just let me be the first to say what an amazing city, definitely on my list to go back to.  It is full of activity, beauty, history, and the list goes on and on.  We went on a salt mine tour, a Sound of Music bike tour (which is a great way to see Salzburg!), and enjoyed a cute little Airbnb in the heart of the city.  I highly recommend seeing this stunning city for yourself if you come to Europe.

After that, we were dropped off in downtown Munich at our hotel to spend the afternoon sightseeing there before our flight home the next morning.  It was sad to leave my Brother, Sister, and Nephews - but it was a very fun, worthwhile trip!  We crammed a lot into one night in Munich!

I plan to make a return trip much sooner than a decade that’s for sure! :D
