Pikes Peak Pandemic

Wonders never cease to amaze me. I arrived home one night in July to an email from a guy I’ve been wanting to work with for just about a decade. I chuckled because, I have waited this long and the opportunity comes up in the middle of a global pandemic, but such is life.

So, weighing the pros and cons of traveling during this global pandemic, the pros heavily outweighed the risks at this point of the pandemic, so I accepted this amazing opportunity and set off for Pikes Peak at the end of August!

This whole experience was completely amazing! Working with this team and their expertise was so insightful, I learned a lot. If you have ever gone to film or photograph the Pikes Peak Hill Climb you know the hours are insane…we were up at 2:30am every day and working some days right into the late evening hours. To date this was the biggest gig I have ever landed with my camera work being in this docu series on Motor Trend.

As I mentioned above about getting up early, you can see some photos on the mountain with the stars in the sky and then as the sun greets us, they wrap for the day. On race day, I was assigned to the group, filming at the top of the mountain! Spending the day at 14,000 feet was incredible to say the least…snow and ice delayed this late August race for a few hours, but once we got going it moved along and we, luckily, didn’t have too many weather issues!

Some of the drivers we were filming for the week ran into some trouble during qualifying runs that required buying a new Tesla and tearing it apart for parts or flying in parts from North Carolina. Crazy to see how far teams will go to keep going, very inspiring!

To compliment the footage from the mountain, we also took time to interview each driver we followed and their car in a local studio, it was pretty awesome to meet them and see their cars up close and personal.

I want to thank JF and the rest of the team for an unforgettable experience filming at Pikes Peak - epic!!
